STARS (Steps To Achieve Reading Success) Literacy was started by Paula Coln and Katie Brooks. Both Paula and Katie have a great love for books and both homeschooled each of their own four children. They both have also tutored and homeschooled disadvantaged children as well.
We think that besides a relationship with Jesus Christ, reading skills are one of the most important factors to success in a child’s education and later in adult life. After all, if a student can read, the world is opened up to that child to learn about any other subject as well.
Paula has a child with a learning disability for whom learning to read was difficult and Katie has a child with autism. We believe that education is best achieved by tailoring to the individual needs and abilities of each student. We understand that this isn’t always possible in an urban school setting where resources are limited, so we developed STARS to provide that individual attention to students to help them be successful in enhancing their literacy skills.
